Basically when you buy a kit of memory it's matched from the fabrication line, it will have the same exact die, and matching binned parts. This is why "install in pairs" is always recommended. WebI've seen different brands with different sizes all mixed together. There's nothing wrong with having like 8 GB + 4 GB to get 12 GB, etc. It may not be as fast as having only 2 of the same sticks for dual channel, but it should work.

For example, I currently have 2 x 8gb Ram sticks and need to go out and get another 2 x 8gb Ram sticks. Do they need to match my other two at all or can they be different speeds and everything?
