That means that around 22,000 children in Cornwall are living in poverty. This is a shocking figure, and it is one that we must do something about. WebBefore the pandemic, 4.3 million children were living in poverty in the UK. In 2024/21, this fell to 3.9 million (or 27% of children) largely thanks to the temporary £20 a week increase to Universal Credit. This shows that change is possible – child poverty can be reduced with the right policies.
